Webb's Reflection on Season

This first season was one to remember. There were a LOT of firsts. First takedown. First pin, First placer at a tournament. First state placewinner! Again, a lot of firsts. With that comes a LOT of trial and error. As I reflect on this team as a whole I saw pockets of what I consider exemplary work ethic and positive attitude. However, we had a few kids who should have been leaders but were not hard workers in the room. They lead for sure, but in the wrong direction. I was quite surprised at how difficult it was to battle that attitude and keep a team feeling like a team. The assistant coaches and I often had conversations about how to address this issue. Honestly, I don’t think we really figured out how to do it. We did learn a lot in the process though. The season ended on a fairly high note at the divisional tournament with kids out performing expectations. It was fun to see things come together at just the right time. Overall, I would consider the GCHS first wrestling season ever a success as well as a great learning experience!
